A couple of weeks ago I committed to supporting any qualified woman in strata who nominated themselves for an SCA (NSW) board or committee position.

Since then, I have been contacted by a number of very talented women. Consistent with my commitment, I will be publishing the details of their nomination so that voting members of SCA (NSW) might consider supporting a fellow woman in strata. Voting for all board positions will occur at the AGM to be held on Friday 6 November 2015 at 8.00am at the Hilton Hotel, George St Sydney. All nominations must be received by the SCA General Manager by 5pm on Thursday 22 October 2015.

The first outstanding candidate to contact me is Michele Hemmings.

Michele-Hemmings-NOMINATION-FOR-SCA

Michele is a licensed Strata Managing Agent operating the specialised strata management firm Exclusively Strata for the past 10 years. She is also a Certified Practising Accountant, with three accounting degrees (bachelors, honours, masters). Prior to her career in strata, Michele spent 20 years as an accounting academic: senior lecturer, published author, recognised researcher of corporate accounting, company takeovers and the accounting standard setting process in Australia and other Western nations.

Michele’s strata business began in 2005 and has grown exponentially ever since. Michele has taken an active role in the recent legislative reforms, being a voluntary member of the initial SCA (NSW) Strata Reform Working Party and submitted her own 64 page commentary to the government and then, more recently, a briefer submission on the 2015 Bill.

Michele is passionate about the strata sector and supports moves to recognise strata management as a profession in its own right. She feels that her experience in the accounting profession will add valuable kudos to the profile of SCA (NSW).

Michele wishes to be a part of the Board of Directors for SCA (NSW) for several reasons: to offer her CPA credentials and expertise to the Board, to assist with policy enhancement (especially membership categories and access to services), to represent regional NSW, to encourage growth of the strata industry in these locales, and to add a female voice to all of the above.
