It’s that time of the year in NSW: nominations are open for Strata Community Australia (NSW) board and committee positions.

Having identified that women are dramatically under-represented at SCA board level generally, here is our opportunity in NSW to inject the diversity required to ensure the board is properly representative of the sector it seeks to serve.

If you are interested in nominating for a board or committee position, then read on. I summarise below the information that was emailed to SCA NSW members by Rachel Lynn (SCA NSW General Manager) yesterday. Rachel is encouraging women to nominate for these positions.

Please don’t rely on this information alone, please read Rachel’s emails for yourself (SCA NSW members will have received two emails) or contact Rachel directly for all the important details or to ask any questions.

I personally will be supportive of, and a true advocate for, any qualified woman who wants to nominate for one of these positions. I am sure the same would be said by many involved in the Women in Strata group: let us know you’re interested and we will support you in whatever way we can, including acting as your nominees, or connecting you with any required resources.

If you aren’t interested in these positions, it would also be great to hear you share your reasons why you have decided not to put your hand up. There seems to be a school of thought in this sector that women aren’t in these positions because they simply don’t want to be in them and choose not to get involved. Is this a fact, or a myth to be busted? Let’s start talking about it.
