The Women in Strata team wants to acknowledge the horrific terror event that occurred at Bondi Beach on Sunday. We send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the lost, and the Jewish community as a whole. Our hearts are with you. As we grapple with the reality of the sheer loss of life, safety and peace, it’s important and comforting to know that it’s possible for many things to be true at once. Jewish journalist Nadine J Cohen, who was in Bondi on Sunday, captured this powerfully in The Guardian:
“The horrors of Gaza are not undermined by acknowledging our humanity and right to life. The unconscionable death toll there is not diminished by expressing empathy for our dead and mourning here. It’s actually absurdly easy to hold space for everyone, everywhere, all at once”.
Let’s us try to do exactly that. Hold space for everyone, everywhere, all at once.
As we come to the end of the year, it would be remiss not to acknowledge how challenging 2025 has been for those working in strata. Many in our sector know what it feels like to be judged by the actions of a few, rather than the integrity of the many.To those who are still here. To those who chose ethics, professionalism, and care even when it was hard. To those who kept showing up through the noise. We see you.
It has not been an easy year, but as we look ahead, there is genuine opportunity for reset and renewal. That may sound familiar, even hopeful, but we truly believe it.
