We’ve had a fabulous and positive response throughout the sector to our partnership with Share the Dignity and their #itsinthebag campaign. A big thank you to everyone who has supported the idea and promised to take part. We’re very excited.

I’ve had a few questions about how to make your donation, so here is your step-by-step guide.

1. The Bag
The initial concept for #itsinthebag was for women to donate a bag they no longer use and fill it with lovely items as well as essentials for women in need.

What type of bag?
Well that’s entirely up to you! Perhaps you have a favourite style of bag you’ve found that never lets you down when you need to carry all the things?
It can be a bag you already have and no longer use, or if you are feeling extra generous you can always buy a new one.

How big should it be?
That kinda depends on what you plan to put in there. I’d say anything classed ‘medium’ would be perfect and something large very generous.

Tips
Random internet examples:

The bag should be sturdy, something women can carry their possessions around in safely without fear they will fall out.

2. The Contents
What ‘essentials’ should I include?

  • Pads and tampons – as of course we want to “share the dignity”. A great alternative is a menstrual cup as it can hygienically be cleaned and reused.
  • Shampoo, soap, conditioner, toothbrush and toothpaste – stuff we need to keep us clean
  • Deodorant, wipes, tissues
  • Sunscreen
  • Hairbrush and ties
  • Socks and undies

Tips
You’re not obligated to include all these items. As it’s a gift from you, maybe think about what you would need the most.

How about the something lovely?
This is the fun part. Be as creative as you like. This is a gift just from you to a stranger in need. Ideas include:

  • A notebook and pens and/or something to read
  • Moisturiser, lip balm or hand cream
  • A wheat pack or travel pillow
  • Movie ticket vouchers
  • Sunglasses, necklace, bracelet – something pretty
  • A scarf, pair of gloves or shawl
  • It’s your gift, let your imagination run wild

The ‘please don’t pack’ items
Anything used. All items should be new, sealed and in original package (except the bag itself of course)
Food or drinks including chocolate, lollies, alcohol, fruit etc
Pharmaceuticals – such as Panadol, throat lozenges, condoms etc – because everyone has different needs
Sharps – razors, knives or scissors – for everyone’s safety including the volunteers who will be delivering the bags.

Tip
Why not get your whole office in on the act and have everyone bring in one item of their choice. Not only does it take the pressure off the thought of making a whole bag, it helps spread this important message.

3. Delivery
At the Party
If you have registered for and are attending our Women in Strata Christmas party on 24 November 2016, please bring the bags with you. A representative from Share the Dignity will be there to collect the bags and everyone who comes along will go in the draw to win a beautiful She Lion clutch.

Come Visit Me at StrataSense
If you are unable to attend the party but are still keen to participate feel free to drop the bags off to our Surry Hills office before 24 November 2016. Coffee (or wine, or beer) is on me. Email me to arrange natalie.fitzgerald@stratasense.com.au

Pick Up
Because it is such a great cause I will arrange a day to do a Sydney drive around and pick up the bags from all the fabulous strata people.

Tip
I am working on a special prize (that may involve tickets and an exciting sporting event) that everyone who donates a bag, whether attending our party or not, will be in the running to win.
