It’s been nearly a week since the launch of our Mentoring Program and I’m still on a high from last week’s breakfast: the energy in the room, the inspiration from my fellow panel guests, the commitment we’re all making to ourselves to step up. It was a welcome boost as we enter one of the busiest times of our year.

Immediately after the breakfast, I attended a conference with a client of mine (strata building) at the offices of an eastern suburbs council. There were 7 people around the table for this meeting. 6 men, and me. Never more clearly did it come home to me that we need to change this picture. Incidentally, one of the men in the room asked for my permission (!) to remove his jacket as it was warm. How very quaint. I told him: I’d be in jeans if it weren’t for my morning event so, no need to stand on ceremony for me. I guess men can find these rooms tricky too.

The very first blog I wrote for Women in Strata was about getting more women around the table – or better yet, building our own tables. The Mentoring Program is our commitment to getting you a seat at the table you want to sit at.
