Welcome to 2017.
…and we are off to a flying start: last week I was in Brisbane meeting with a group of very well-respected and experienced strata managers and sector experts, discussing the launch of Women in Strata Queensland.
This is a really exciting next step for Women in Strata and you’ll be hearing more on that topic very soon.
I hope you enjoy our new-look newsletter which will soon be featuring articles from our QLD sisters in strata, as well as keeping everyone up to date on events in NSW and QLD, as we continue to build momentum across the country.
Speaking of NSW events, our first event for 2017 is scheduled for 6pm Thursday 23 February. Beverley Price and Laura Mears will be sharing their expertise when it comes to nutrition and wellness for the busy woman in strata. Enjoy catching up with colleagues and friends with a glass of sparking on arrival and light refreshments. Details and tickets available here. As always, get in quick to avoid disappointment.
Last but not least, here’s a recommended read for you: Feminist Fight Club, by Jessica Bennett. It’s billed as: “…practical, no-bullsh*t advice for how to combat today’s sexism. Bennett offers a new vocabulary for the sexist archetypes women encounter everyday—such as the Manterrupter, who talks over female colleagues in meetings, or the Bropropriator, who appropriates their ideas—and provides practical hacks for pushing back.”
This is not just another “feminist manifesto” [though those are good too] – this book is a ready-reference guide for those who need practical tips on how to effectively combat sexism “in the moment”, so you’ll never again walk out of meeting wondering: “did that really just happen, and why didn’t I do something about it?” There are some great meeting tips in here that I am sure many a female-strata manager will happily tuck away for later use. Enjoy.
Amanda Farmer.
