In January, my eldest daughter Emma and I got our first tattoo together in Byron Bay. I chose the word ‘Always’ which came to me so strongly during a breathwork session a year earlier. The word, the font, the placement, the meaning. At the time, I didn’t fully understand why. The timing of getting that tattoo this year held more significance than I could ever have realised.
We live in a world (especially those of us working in Strata) where everyone wants something from us. A demanding client who thinks yelling louder will deliver faster results, running a business, providing for and supporting our family, managing a household, a relationship, meal prepping, assisting ageing parents … There really aren’t many hours left in the week.
‘Always’ is my permanently inked reminder on my wrist to not listen to the noise, but to remember what is important to me, who is important to me, how do I want to spend my time and who do I choose to give my energy to.
This year’s International Women’s Day theme, Give to Gain, is not only a reminder of the importance of giving to ourselves first, but also a powerful reminder that when we lead with generosity – we all gain.
Over the past 25 years in Strata, so many remarkable women have gifted me with their generosity of knowledge, guidance, time and love. So many have championed for me, lifted me up and never gave up on me. How bloody powerful is that? The power of women supporting women.
My tattoo became my “why”. It became my deciding factor in stepping into this next chapter as Women in Strata’s new Owner and Director – to be able to lead and empower women to come together to support, teach and inspire… with a cheeky glass of bubbles in hand of course!
Here’s to generosity, and to remarkable women celebrating, supporting and championing each other – Always.
Happy International Women’s Day.
